Verging on Leonard Cohen - like spoken word stuff rather than a singer at points but I like that kind of thing.
I do also like the proper big band stuff like with Tommy Dorsey
Their version of Cole Porter's Night and Day is really good.
His voice could really do melancholy like in Funny Valentine.
And in the same in the lounge lizard stuff like The Tender Trap.

I don't dislike Sinatra but I can think about a dozen singer/songwriters off the top of my head who I prefer...still, he was a sharp dresser so credit to him for that
The Ian Dury film with Andy Serkis was on the other night...I dig that sort of thing much more

As other have said, great phrasing, helped enormously by cracking good bands and arrangements. And you never heard Frank breathing, master of control. Some of the shit around today sounds like they'r emphasemic, the racket between every short phrase.
